Nigeria’s Keystone Bank Limited has been honored in faraway United States for its efforts at empowering women entrepreneurs through its different banking packages created for them. The award, the organizers noted is in recognition of Keystone Bank’s leadership role as in expanding access to funds for women entrepreneurs in Nigeria and the rest of Africa where it operates.This feat they further said has brought about unprecedented growth to the business sector and by extension, the nation’s economy and that of Africa. The lender was conferred with The Global Impact Leadership Award – Best Bank In Women Entrepreneurs Empowerment Category. Present to receive the award was the Group Managing Director/CEO, Keystone Bank Limited, Mr. Obeahon Ohiwerei, who did not hide his joy at the event. The ceremony was the Africa Women Forum (AWF) held In New York, US.

Team Nigeria’s sole representative in the men’s High Jump at the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, Mike Edwards, is appealing to the IAAF to rescind its earlier decision stopping him from competing at the Games which kick off next week. According to Making of Champions, the 27-year old high jumper has become the latest victim of the IAAF’s indefinite freeze on the transfer of allegiance process, which was put in place on February 6 last year, largely for the purpose of protecting vulnerable African athletes from being poached by other nations. However, Edwards was named on the Nigerian team to the Commonwealth Games in February, and revealed that he had been cleared by British Athletics to compete for Nigeria. A 27-year-old student of the Ambrose Alli University, Edo State was hacked to death at Obalende roundabout in Lagos.  The student identified as Emmanuel Onaghise, was reportedly ambushed by suspected cultists around 10.25p.m on Monday, 26th March 2018. Emmanuel's sister has taken to her Facebook page to mourn the untimely death of her brother. "Why why whyyyyyyyyy. The police in Borno state has arrested one Musa Faisal in connection with the acid attack on his 26-year old girlfriend, Fatima Usman, a final year student of Department of Nursing, University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) who was attacked with corrosive fluid by suspected tricycle operators in Maiduguri on March 16th. The state commissioner of Police (CP), Damian Chukwu, made the disclosure while briefing newsmen in Maiduguri yesterday March 29th. The police boss said the suspect, Musa Faisal, was arrested by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Kano. There was pandemonium earlier today after a man collapsed and died while driving in Gombe state. The driver was transporting bags of sachet water near the office of the former governor of the state - before he died on the wheel this morning. The incident was said to have pulled a crowd which gathered to see the deceased. His corpse and vehicle were later evacuated by the police.

A 34-year-old man, Maaruf Sarki, has been arrested by the police in Niger State for killing his landlord, Tasiu Shittu in Kontagora area of the state. Maaruf was also alleged to have buried his landlord in a shallow grave. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state police command, ASP Mohammed Abubakar, stated this yesterday in Minna, pointing out that Sarki also stole N1.7 million from the deceased including an unregistered Honda car. He added that the suspect fled to Sokoto after committing the crime but was arrested by detectives from his hideout. The police spokesman, who paraded Sarki along with 11 other suspects, which include kidnappers and robbers, said Sarki killed and buried one Alhaji Tasiu Shittu in shallow grave inside a rented apartment in Kontagora. He explained that the apartment was rented out to the suspect by the deceased, adding that the suspect has led detectives to the shallow grave and that the body has been exhumed for autopsy. A mother and her son have been buried on the same day in Akwa Ibom state. The mother gave up the ghost on the 18th of December, 2017 at the age of 77.. The son, Mr Okon Udo Essen of Ukana Ikot Ntuen, a staff of Federal Polytechnic Ukana in Essien Udum Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State - consulted the Church and fixed Friday 23rd March, 2018 for the burial as the first son of the family. . Friends and families were contacted and preparations were in top gear for the burial. On Saturday 10th of February, 2018, at the tip of planning for the mother's burial, Okon too answered the final call after a brief illness that defied medical attention. Both the woman and her son were buried amid tears in their family house in Akwa Ibom state.
